Chronic Pelvic Pain

Chronic pelvic pain is persistent discomfort or aching in the lower abdomen that lasts for six months or longer. It can range from mild and nagging to severe and disabling, often interfering with daily life and intimacy. The pain may be constant or intermittent and is sometimes linked to menstrual cycles, digestion, or urination.

Endometriosis

Endometriosis occurs when tissue similar to the uterine lining grows outside the uterus. This misplaced tissue responds to hormonal changes just like the uterine lining does, leading to inflammation, scarring, and pain—especially during menstruation. Endometriosis can also cause painful intercourse, digestive symptoms, and fertility challenges.

Menstrual Disorders

Menstrual disorders include a range of issues related to menstruation, such as heavy bleeding (menorrhagia), missed periods (amenorrhea), painful periods (dysmenorrhea), or irregular cycles.

Whether your periods are too frequent, too far apart, or painful, you must explore what your cycle may be telling you about your overall health.

Oligomenorrhea

Oligomenorrhea refers to infrequent menstrual periods, typically occurring at intervals longer than 35 days. While it can be normal during puberty or around menopause, it may also signal hormonal imbalances, stress, excessive exercise, or conditions like polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). Irregular cycles can impact fertility and may require evaluation.

Osteoporosis

Osteoporosis is a condition where bones become fragile and more likely to break due to a loss of bone density. It often develops silently over time and is most common in postmenopausal women due to declining estrogen levels.

Many women don’t realize they have osteoporosis until a fracture occurs. Early screening is key to protecting bone health.

Pelvic Inflammatory Disease

Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) is an infection of the female reproductive organs, often caused by untreated sexually transmitted infections. It can lead to pelvic pain, fever, abnormal discharge, and pain during intercourse. If not treated promptly, PID can cause scarring in the fallopian tubes, increasing the risk of infertility or ectopic pregnancy.

Pelvic Organ Prolapse

Pelvic organ prolapse happens when the muscles and tissues supporting the pelvic organs—like the bladder, uterus, or rectum—become weakened or stretched, often after childbirth or menopause. This can cause a feeling of pressure or fullness in the pelvis, difficulty with urination or bowel movements, or a sensation of something “falling” out of the vagina.

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a hormonal disorder that affects how the ovaries function. It’s often marked by irregular periods, excessive hair growth, acne, and ovarian cysts. Women with PCOS may also struggle with weight gain and insulin resistance. PCOS can impact fertility and increase the risk for other health conditions like diabetes and heart disease.

Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder

Premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) is a severe form of premenstrual syndrome (PMS) that includes intense emotional and physical symptoms in the week or two before your period. Women with PMDD may experience severe mood swings, irritability, anxiety, fatigue, and physical discomfort that can interfere with relationships, work, and daily functioning.

Sexually Transmitted Infections

Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) can affect women differently than men, often causing more subtle or internal symptoms. Some STIs, like chlamydia or gonorrhea, may go unnoticed until complications arise. Others may cause unusual discharge, burning with urination, or genital sores. Left untreated, STIs can lead to serious reproductive health problems.

Urinary Tract Infection

A urinary tract infection (UTI) is a common infection that affects the bladder and urethra. It often causes a burning sensation during urination, an urgent need to urinate, pelvic pain, and cloudy or strong-smelling urine. UTIs are more common in women due to anatomy, and recurrent infections can become a chronic concern for some.

Urinary Incontinence

Urinary incontinence is the involuntary loss of urine from laughing, coughing, exercising, or a sudden, uncontrollable urge to go. It’s more common after childbirth or with aging, but it’s not something you have to accept as normal. Incontinence can affect your confidence and quality of life, but there are options to help you regain control.

Uterine Fibroids

Uterine fibroids are noncancerous growths in or on the uterus. They vary in size and number and can cause heavy bleeding, pelvic pain, bloating, frequent urination, or pressure in the lower abdomen. Some women have no symptoms at all, while others experience discomfort that disrupts their daily life and menstrual health.

Vaginitis

Vaginitis refers to inflammation of the vagina, often caused by infections, imbalances in bacteria, or irritants, and it can lead to itching, burning, abnormal discharge, or discomfort during intercourse. Common types of vaginitis include bacterial vaginosis, yeast infections, and trichomoniasis. Recognizing the symptoms early can help prevent complications.
